It's Those Weeks Before Christmas
Getting into the Christmas spirit I find myself writing a poem about this most wonderful time of the year. (Yes, music is playing in my head). It is when I think of baking Christmas cookies, finding a special little gift for a family member or a friend, and decorating my little home with the seasonal gems that make me happy and festive. It is also the time of year to reflect and be grateful for what I have and to share with others who are not so blessed...

It's Those Weeks Before Christmas
It is those weeks before Christmas,
When all through the town,
We feel the weather chilling,
See the first snowflakes hit the ground.
The people are hustling and bustling,
And crafting for fairs,
Where they display what they've made,
And peddle their beautiful wares.
Treats that are sumptuously tasty,
And things that sparkle and shine,
Little seasonal goodies and trinkets,
That I can purchase to add to mine.
My calendar is filling up,
With events and seasonal things,
And I have to pick and choose,
From many delightful offerings.
From the events at the wineries,
From the offerings from our stores,
From places in my own little town,
Or the surrounding towns next door.
I make holiday plans with my family,
And friends that I will see,
Plan to share those visits and a chat,
And share nibbly fares with glee.
To welcome the warmth of the season,
And think of the goodwill it holds,
And I will add a donation or two,
For those left out in the cold.
And finally I'll put up my decorations,
And put up what will be my tree,
And hang all my little seasonal lights,
That certainly always delight me.
And I will sit back and enjoy,
A hot drink by my crackling fire,
All cozy and curled up in my house,
Enjoying the peace I desire.
For as much as I often admit,
I'm truly an elf at heart,
I do need those moments of quiet,
Sitting by my own fire's hearth.
And I think of my blessings,
As we approach Christmas again,
Feeling much gratitude and love,
For what this time of year can bring.
